Thrust Stage Fright, watercolor on paper with silkscreen grid, 1978, approx. 14" X 14"

Story

During the time period that I was working on the stage fright series, I attended a play at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. The stage at the Guthrie is a thrust stage, with audience seating on three sides. This was a new experience for me that inspired Thrust Stage Fright. Note that the watercolor paper has a silkscreen grid. I was sketching on graph paper at the time since it facilitated the geometric compositions I was creating. I printed the silkscreen grid on a stack of watercolor papers to create this and other Stage Fright compositions.
