Museum Sketchbooks
The sketchbooks above were used to record divisions of space on ancient Egyptian artifacts viewed at the Field Museum in Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum in New York, and the Louvre in Paris. I prefer these small notepads for two reasons. I can carry them in almost any pocket, so they are convenient, and the small scale keeps me from getting too fussy and detailed with my sketches. It forces me to concentrate on the major shapes and eliminate unnecessary detail. Click on hotspots within the sketches above to go to finished paintings.
