Celestial Navigation
Celestial Navigation, ink and watercolor, 2012, 22" X 15" Jackson typically draws multiple poses observed from life on the same sheet of paper. He works quickly recording the major shadows and leaving outlines missing. The overlapping drawings create abstract compositions which he then paints with watercolor. For this artwork, he drew each of six poses on a separate sheet of paper and later combined the poses on another piece of paper to create Celestial Navigation. Here are the original gesture drawings.
