It is made up of 105 sets of ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) numbers. If translated by a computer, the painting would read "The scenery of Walden is on a humble scale, and, though very beautiful, does not approach to grandeur… This painting may be appreciated without knowledge of computers. The additional story behind the painting provides the viewer with information about computers and the thoughts of Henry David Thoreau from a simpler time. |
