CussacCussac, oil on canvas, 2001, 32.5" X 32.5" Story In July, 2001, I was struck by a photo of cave engravings discovered near the hamlet of Cussac in France. The engravings depict animals including bison and horses and could date back as far as 28,000 B.C. We like to think our civilization is so advanced, yet these drawings are much like many artists do today. It made me think about the objects that are important to us today. This painting uses lines drawn directly from the cave engravings in the photo and combines them with other images including a laptop computer, cell phone, car, boat, television set, hamburger, French Fries, tennis shoe, Rocket Ship, and flying saucer. |
