Deco Sky, watercolor, 1976, approx. 28" X 17" StoryIdeas for paintings often come to me while driving or flying on long trips. Driving on a beautiful summer night, enjoying the stars out in the country, I thought about a stylized landscape that would use a pattern of light and dark in the sky rather than the haphazard arrangement of stars in the actual sky. I had always loved the Deco pattern in a bathrobe my father bought in the early 1940s. (It had hung in a closet in my parent's home my whole life, and I never saw him wear it.) This pattern became the most important part of Deco Sky. |
