Cool Divide, watercolor and pencil, 1999, 29.5 " X 29.5 " To Thumbnail Sketch for Cool Divide Story I used to work for a company that helped market colleges and universities. I frequently worked as a team member discussing packages of proposed services. We often created several scenarios for client consideration and summarized the recommendations in tables in Word documents. One day I drew some simple lines and scribbled dots in the blank cells in the corner of one of these tables. The contrast between the black laser printed straight lines and the ballpoint pen lines appealed to me. I decided to further push the contrast between these areas by choosing warm colors for the rectangles defined by the straight lines and cool colors for the areas containing the hand-drawn lines. The result is Cool Divide. |
